The Platinum Print: Classical Photography

The photo medium has grown from the early days of wet plates and hour-long exposures to palm-sized cameras and post-production tools that have nothing to do with a camera. There was a time when, by necessity, making a photograph was a long and involved process of contemplation and application of studied techniques. The platinum process has been around for over a hundred years. The variables are simple, yet infinite, in their combination. The photographer controls light on the film with a lens, and controls the print with light and developer. An 8X10 negative is contact-printed onto paper that has been hand-coated with a light-sensitive emulsion. (This) process, in conjunction with paper types, can render tones from cool blacks to warm browns, and highlights of great delicacy and texture.

Purchasing Prints

My prints are made to order I do not make them in batches, I limit the editions to 10 signed and dated prints. I prefer to mount the prints using 100% acid free cotton matte. If you prefer a untrimmed print in a collector style presentation mounting that can be arranged. Prints can also be framed, Please feel free to contact regarding any questions.

Price:

Prints vary in price from 400 to 600 dollars for 8x10 prints mounted on 16x20.
Additional charges for framing can be negotiated.
